PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Carl Mortimer Brinson Jr. passed away on Dec. 10. He was 92.
Born on December 5, 1929, in Jacksonville, Fla., Brinson graduated from North Augusta High School in Augusta, Ga., in 1949. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. After service, Brinson went to the University of Georgia.
In 1958, he began his career with Serta Mattress Co. and later went to work for Dixie Furniture, which later became Lexington Furniture. Brinson continued with the company for 36 years, retiring in 1999.
Brinson was president of the International Home Furnishings Representative Assn. for Indiana, Georgia, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
After years of being retired, Brinson returned to the industry, working for several smaller furniture companies.
Brinson is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Mortimer Brinson Sr. and Lona Mae LeCroy Brinson Lamar, his stepfather, John Cary Lamar, and his wife, Sarah Caroline Rountree Brinson.
He is survived by Peggy Burnham, three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Barrancas National Cemetery.
