Independent sales rep Marty Berkowitz dies at 63

STONINGTON, Conn. — Martin J. Berkowitz, 63, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born Aug. 8, 1958, in New Rochelle, N.Y., and raised in Commack, N.Y., Berkowitz is the son of the late Hal and Roslyn Berkowitz. Following his high school graduation, Marty attended Pace University in New York City where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1981.

Berkowitz spent 40 years in the furniture industry as a self-employed sales representative up until his recent retirement in 2021. He also served for many years on the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. He was recently honored with the “Marty Party” in High Point, which allowed Marty to reconnect with many colleagues and friends via Zoom.

He is survived by his companion, Tami Capriotti; two sons; a brother and a sister.

The family will receive relatives and friends 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, Jan. 10, at the Mystic Funeral Home at Route 1 51 Williams Ave., Mystic, Conn. A noon service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Following the service, Berkowtiz will be buried at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
