Furniture retailer Jimmy Blocker dies at 92

OCALA, Fla. — E.L. “Jimmy” Blocker, chairman of Blocker’s Furniture in Ocala, Fla., died Feb. 24 at the age of 92.

Blocker was born on July 3, 1929, to Edgar and Marion Blocker.

Blocker was the second generation of the family business that was started by his parents. His mother took him to work as a baby and let him sleep in a desk drawer, beginning his lifetime in the furniture business.

When Blocker’s father died in 1965, he took the leadership role in the business. His son, Russell Blocker, and grandson, Rusty Blocker, are the third and fourth generations in the 98-year-old business.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hallie and his brother William. He is survived by his son and daughter, four grandchildren, five nephews, as well as great-grandchildren and great-nieces and -nephews.
