COLUMBIA, S.C. — A manufacturer’s representative for 40 years, James Curtis Joyce died at age 96 on Feb. 1.
Joyce was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Martinsville, Va., to William and Maude Joyce. He served in the Army Air Force near the end of World War II and was stationed with the occupying forces at Dachau Concentration Camp.
He moved his family to Columbia in January 1957 and worked as a manufacturer’s representative for Bassett Furniture Inds. for 40 years.
Joyce organized and helped establish the St. Andrews Little League baseball program in the early 1960s. He also served as a Cub Scout Master for years and as a member of the St. Andrews Optimist Club.
Joyce was preceeded in death by his wife, Jeanne Joyce, and a grandson. He is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church, where he was a member for 64 years, to the St. Andrew Baptist Church Audio-Visual Ministry, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, S.C. 29210, or to a charity of one’s choice.
