Charles Bolick, Alexvale Furniture, dies at 86

CONOVER, N.C. — Charles Henry Bolick Jr., former owner, president and CEO of Alexvale  Furniture, passed away Aug. 14 at home at age 86.

During his lifetime, Bolick started and sold several businesses in many industries including clothing, restaurant, lighting and healthcare, but his true love was the furniture business.  One of his first furniture ventures was Taylorcraft in Taylorsville, N.C. Taylorcraft was purchased by Bassett in the late 1960s.

In 1975, Bolick and his business partners started Alexvale Furniture, selling the company to La-Z-Boy Furniture in 1999.

He served on the board of directors of the American Furniture Manufacturers Assn.

During his life, Bolick travelled extensively throughout Asia, especially the Philippines where he was recognized for his civic accomplishments. He also was active in his local community, serving on many boards, and was recently awarded the key to the city of Conover.

Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy, two sons, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
