THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Scott Russell Turner Sr., third-generation member of the Turner Furniture Co., which later became Top 100 retailer 1915 South, died at Archbold Memorial Hospital on Feb. 20.

Turner was born April 24, 1940, to Mose Wright Turner Jr. and Eunice Brinson Turner. After graduating Pelham High School, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology before returning to Pelham to join the family business and continued in it until his retirement.

While in the business, Turner was active in the Georgia Home Furnishings Assn. and served as its president. His love of his community led him to be involved in many civic organizations in Pelham and Bainbridge, where he maintained an office for many years.

He served for many years on the board of directors and board of trustees of Brookwood School in Thomasville, where his children and grandchildren attended, and was an active member of Hand Memorial United Methodist Church in Pelham, and later First Methodist Church of Thomasville.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, whom he married in 1965; three children, including 1915 South CEO Russell Turner; nine grandchildren, including Garland Turner, 1915 South’s vice president of new projects; one brother and one sister.

The family suggests gifts in Turner’s memory may be made to First Methodist Church 425 North Borad Street, Thomasville, Ga 31792.
