MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Warren Wayne Riggan, veteran furniture manufacturer, died Sept. 9 at age 81.
Born on June 28, 1938, Riggan attended the University of Richmond where he earned a master’s degree in political science. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Syracuse University Language School for military service members.
After leaving the Air Force, Riggan began a career in case goods manufacturing, starting at Bassett as a floor manager. From there, he moved on to American of Martinsville, National of Mt. Airy, Singer Furniture and Forrest Inds.
Later, Riggan was vice president of sourcing at Universal Furniture and then vice president of capacity for Ladd International.
During his career, he also worked with a number of veneer and lumber mills.
Riggan is survived by his wife Janette, two sons and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 730 East Church Street Suite 13, Martinsville, Va. 24112.
