JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Charles E. Parker, chairman of Johnson City Bedding Co. here, died recently. He was 100.
His career in the bedding industry started in 1953 when the CPA firm that he worked for assigned him to perform accounting and tax services for Johnson City Bedding. In 1972, he bought the company when the founder decided to retire. Parker served as president and CEO from 1972 to 1986 and was chairman until the time of his death.
“He was actively involved in the company until the time of his death at the age of 100,” said his son, Bob Parker, president of Johnson City Bedding. “He saw, and embraced, many changes in the bedding industry during those 66 years of involvement. He enjoyed his time with the company and made daily trips through our plant speaking to employees and seeing the latest products being produced.”
