SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — Calvin Duane Raney died Sept. 19 at the age of 91.

Raney was born in Westboro, Mo., on April 15, 1928, to Milford and Cecil Raney. Initially starting his career in the grocery store business, in the 1960s he became credit manager for Daystrom Furniture, a manufacturer of casual dining furniture located in South Boston, Va. Raney progressed with the company to become Ohio territory rep, vice president of marketing and eventually president.

Raney retired from Daystrom in 1984 to partner with his son to start R&R Associates, a manufacturer’s rep organization. He eventually partnered with two local businessmen to buy the retail operation of D-Scan, which became Boston Furniture Liquidators, a full-line furniture store.

When this business was dissolved, Raney and his son opened Boston Traders Warehouse in 2004, from which he retired in 2013. Also, he was a director of the National Furniture Manufacturers Assn.

Raney is survived by his wife, Delores; two children; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother; one niece and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, and his sister.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 815 North Main St., South Boston, Va. 24592, or to Habitat for Humanity.
