ALTAVISTA, Va. – Former Lane executive Donald Henry Tucker died Oct. 1 at Runk and Pratt Liberty Ridge Assisted Living. He was 87.
Tucker was born June 19, 1932, in Campbell County, Va., and was a son of the late Walter Paris Tucker and Emma Mae Hackworth.
He began his furniture career working in Lane’s Altavista headquarters and later became the Lane sales representative for the state of Alabama. He returned to corporate headquarters in the early 1970s and retired as vice president responsible for international sales.
He also was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and husband of the late Virginia Sitton Tucker for 66 years. Tucker was a member of First Baptist Church of Altavista.
He is survived by two children, four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted today, Friday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Michael Lee. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1001 Bedford Ave., Altavista, Va. 24517.
