Dana Fitzpatrick, hardwood lumber executive, dies at 90

Dana fitzpatrickELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. – Dana G. Fitzpatrick, a longtime executive in the hardwood lumber industry, died on Dec. 18. He was 90.

He graduated from Ellicottville Central School in 1948. In 1952, he graduated from and earned a degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame. After college, he was commissioned as an officer in the Navy and was stationed in Newport, R.I. from 1952 to 1954. On Dec. 28, 1955, he married Bernice Siebart.

He worked for hardwood components supplier Fitzpatrick & Weller for 66 years, where he served as president, CEO and chairman of the board of directors. This year, the company celebrated its 125th anniversary.

He also was a former director of the National Hardwood Lumber Assn., the Hardwood Manufacturers Assn., and the American Forest and Paper Assn. He also served as chairman of the American Hardwood Export Council and the National Forest Products Assn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, a sister, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Private family services with a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Burial with military honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Ellicottville. Memorials may be made to the Ellicottville Memorial Library or the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program, C/O Holiday Valley Resort, P.O. Box 370 Ellicottville, N.Y. 14731.
