BOCA RATON, Fla. — George R. Akins Jr., a veteran retail and manufacturing sales representative, passed away at home on Oct. 14, 2020, at the age of 80.
Akins was born on Feb. 13, 1940, to Harold Deane and George Akins Sr. in Savannah, Ga.
Upon graduation from Georgia Southern University in the mid-1960s, Akins became a sales associate at Haverty’s Furniture in Jacksonville, Fla., for two years, which prompted his desire to work in the furniture industry for the next 50-plus years.
During his career, he worked with Dixie Furniture, Bernhardt Furniture and Hibriten. Later he became a multi-line furniture representative for companies including Braxton Culler, Bradington-Young, Steinworld, Lifestyle California, Boyd Furniture, Sam Moore and Crestview.
Akins is survived by his wife, Barbara, two daughters, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
